ILES students who experienced "adventures in reading" and completed their Summer Reading Logs are getting rewards for their efforts over summer break!
ILES reading guru Fisherwoman Frieda congratulated students on their success during the Summer Reading Celebration recently. She explains what is so special about becoming a strong reader.
"Every time you open a book, you are casting your line into a new world. Sometimes you catch a funny story. Sometimes you catch a mystery, an exciting adventure, a new fact, or a character who teaches you something important. And sometimes, you catch an idea that stays with you long after you close the book."
She continued, "Our students who completed their reading logs did more than simply read pages. They went on adventures! They traveled to places they had never been, met people they had never known, and discovered ideas they may never have encountered otherwise. And just like a fisherwoman knows that a successful fishing trip takes patience, determination, and persistence, becoming a strong reader takes those same qualities."
Students who turned in the logs got to choose a new book, enjoy an extra recess and grab a favorite candy bar.
ILES reading teacher Mrs. Liz Wolf reports that dozens of first through fifth graders turned in completed reading logs indicating they read at least 30 times over the summer.
Students who are new to the district and didn't have a chance to complete the log got a Laker Zone bracelet and round of applause.
