ILES students who completed their Summer Reading Logs are getting rewards for their efforts over summer break!
ILES reading guru Fisherwoman Frieda sported a clown wig and led a Summer Reading Celebration recently. The assembly was to congratulate all the readers and discuss what were the favorite locations where kids read this summer. Preferred reading areas included with a pet, in front of a mirror and in bed with a flashlight.
This year's theme was a circus and students were encouraged to real all kinds of books, but especially fiction (not real!)
ILES reading teacher Elaine Jacobs reports more than 120 first through fifth graders turned in completed reading logs indicating they read at least 30 times over the summer. The actual number will be higher once IL preschoolers return because they also kept a log this summer.
Students who turned in the logs got to choose a new book, enjoy an extra recess and grab a favorite candy bar.
