This is the image for the news article titled Second Grade OlympicsILES second graders are going for the gold with their latest language arts unit!
They recently learned about Greek civilization and mythology through stories. They discussed contributions the Greeks made to society that still remain today, including the Olympics!
ILES second grade teachers decided to hold their own Olympic Games to help the children better retain this challenging new knowledge. They wore togas, laurel leaf headbands and carried torches as they paraded through the hallways for the Opening Ceremonies. Then they went out to the track where they competed as class teams in epic events including long jump, 50-yard dash, javelin throw (using a pool noodle), discus throw (using a frisbee) and shot put throw (using a bean bag). Way to represent, Lakers!
