First graders are finishing up a unit called "From Nose to Toes," learning basics about their body. This lesson is part of the new mandated curriculum covering some of the organs in the body, why do you have a skeleton, what do muscles do and why is blood important. 
The unit also covered healthy habits.
As a finale to the lessons, retired local nurse Jean Jackson and area nurse Alec Graber visited classrooms to give students tips on keeping their body healthy. They demonstrated how to cover a cough or sneeze. They also checked hands for germs and used a stethoscope to listen to each other's heart beat. 
Throughout the 2-week unit, Indian Lake Elementary teachers used material provided in a health medical kit from Ohio Hi Point Career Center that specifically supports the new curriculum.
