Different Lands, Similar Stories

ILES students are learning that many of our favorite stories are told to children all around the world.
First graders recently wrapped up a unit called Different Lands, Similar Stories. For instance, many parts of the world have fairy tales that are very close to what we know as "Cinderella" and "Tom Thumb."
They celebrated the conclusion of the lessons with stations that represented many of the activities repeated in these tales. In one classroom they made castles out of blocks and Legos. In another room, they learned to basics of ballroom dancing. They colored and decorated a paper crown and sampled special green tea at a tea party. Finally, they also decorated some cookies and ate them because every good story needs a snack!
