ILES reading guru Fisherwoman Frieda led a Summer Reading Celebration assembly to congratulate all the readers and discuss what special strategies the kids used to sound out words and comprehend stories they read. This summer's slogan was "Have a Ball--Read!"
ILES reading teacher Elaine Jacobs said the extra special incentives this year really motivated the kids.

After giving Frieda a high-five, students who turned in the logs got to choose a new book, enjoy an extra recess, take home bouncy balls and take part in an outdoor activity where they got to throw a pie in the face of a teacher and throw a ball to dunk the principal in the dunk tank!
Because second graders brought in the most reading logs, those who read also received glow in the dark, full sized bouncy balls.
