ILES 4th graders are learning reasons why they need to put down their devices and get active!
The Mary Rutan Hospital Power Up 4 Fitness Team recently presented positive ways to live and life-long healthy habits.
Registered Nurse Deb Orr led groups in relay races of "roll the dice" jump rope and games of "kick the can" in the pod.
Orr told fourth graders to make memories with friends by being active. "Instead of being inside playing on this (your devices), be outside doing fun stuff like this!" she encouraged.
In the classrooms students played a healthy foods bingo game in a session on nutrition, compared non-smoker lungs to a smoker’s lungs in a class on tobacco dangers and examined a healthy pig heart, similar to a human heart, in a discussion about staying active for heart health. Finally, 4th graders got Power Up 4 Fitness bracelets and educational resources to take home.
