Indian Lake Elementary students are helping the American Heart Association celebrate its 40th birthday by continuing their annual Jump Rope For Heart fund drive this month.
The Leapin' Lakers Jump Rope Club helped kick off the event by performing their show for the entire ILES student body recently.
Throughout February, students will learn about heart health during gym class by jumping rope, dancing and exercising. They will also discuss other ways to prevent heart disease, including eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables, drinking plenty of water instead of sugary drinks, avoiding too much high fructose corn syrup and salt, and finally, saying 'no' to smoking and e-cigarettes.
Students are asked to collect donations from friends and family members, with the assistance of parents. They may use the Kids Heart Challenge App to help in their effort or to access further information and games.
Last year, ILES students brought in more than $5,400 in the Jump Rope for Heart campaign.
