Second grade teacher Sarah Beres is hoping her new classroom library will help students build reading skills, along with develop character.
Beres applied for and recently received a $500 Energizing Education Grant from the Logan County Electric Cooperative. She used the money to purchase several books for her classroom that feature inspiring stories (some of famous people) and a book shelf to display them.
Her hope is that when students read how Michael Jordan once got cut from his school's basketball team or how Albert Einstein did not speak for the first several years of his life, they will start to recognize their own potential.
Beres says, "We talk a lot about the Laker Zone and having good character here. But sometimes a book will reach people in a way that we can't."
Beres plans to read a few of the books with her class as a group each week and discuss the themes. The books will also be available for the students to read while at school.
