Indian Lake Elementary educators are hoping students will "Roll into Reading" over the summer months.
They kicked off the ILES Summer Reading Program with a special assembly recently featuring all kids of rolling things like giant bicycles, hover boards, roller skates, wheelbarrows and more!
Reading Gurus “Fisherwoman Frieda” and “Eartha Worm” asked kids to read books in all kids of places. They urged kids to roll down to the beach and read, roll under a table and read, or even read to their stuff animals, pets and relatives!
Frieda and her friends highlighted strategies kids can use to help them determine what kinds of reading they are doing including:
-looking for picture clues
-finding hunks and chunks
-leap frogging words they don't know
-making predictions about the story
-looking for connections and
-asking questions
With sponsorship from the ILES PTO and Co-Principals Molly Hall and Jeff Reprogle, students got to choose two books to take home.
Those who read 30 books and complete the reading log will get to roll around at the Indian Lake Roll-A-Rena with a special field trip in the fall.
If students lose the Summer Reading Log they were given, they can print another. The logs must be turned in the first or second day of school.
