The fish were biting at the Blackhawk State park area for today's "Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs" excursion to Indian Lake!
The ILES fourth graders joined members of the ILHS SADD Chapter to learn a new skill! ILES Guidance Counselor Suzy Mallory says even though fishing might not appeal to every student it demonstrates constructive ways to keep busy as an alternative to trying drugs.
Professional fisherman Mike Defibaugh from Logan County also brought his special boat to show students. He talked to them about achieving their dreams with hard work and dedication. Fisherman Jeff Whitsett also talked to the students about the importance of making good choices.
The Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Wildlife and Indian Lake Outfitters provide materials such as current fishing rules and regulations guide, fish identification booklets and other support items. Indian Lake Outfitters and Logan County Community Outreach Centers also help sponsor the event.
The event was Mallory's final "Hooked on Fishing" as she plans to retire at the end of the school year.
