Fourth Graders presented the mini-musical "On the Shoulders of Giants" recently. The brand new show highlighted inventors, statesmen and brave children who were responsible for great changes in the world. It featured famous ancestors Betsy Ross, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, George Washington Carver, and Alexander Graham Bell, and honored modern-day heroes such as Nelson Mandela and Mulala Yousafzai. ILES Music teacher Tracey Notestine director the performance, saying, "This show focuses on the difference one child can make in the world. We pay honor to those who have come before us to pave the path so we can live as we do today."
One of the most moving moments was the performance of "I Am Anne," with a solo from Kolten Manahan and narration by Kendal Miller, Ke'Shawn Blackwell and Lilly Wickline. This song presented the words of Anne Frank, Ryan White and Malala Yousafzai, three children who changed perceptions with their bravery, strength, poise and positive attitude in the face of dire circumstances. Great job 4th graders!
